Express yourself with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts Painting

Start with a blank canvas and develop the artist within. You will have plenty of guidance and support as a Painting major at Edinboro University.

Although our program is grounded in traditional abilities, you will explore contemporary concepts to arrive at your own aesthetic expression. Renowned faculty, each with a wide range of experiences and approaches, will help you build a “tool kit”of skills that includes color theory, color mixing, formal concepts and paint application techniques. You will work with still life, the human figure, landscape and contemporary practices in order to gain in-depth experience in defined areas. As a result, you will graduate with a thorough understanding of both traditional and contemporary painting, ready to take advantage of the unlimited expressive potential of this art form in today’s world.

There is no portfolio review prior to admission. Just bring your passion for the arts and a desire to work hard in a multidisciplinary, highly supportive environment.

Painting students leave Edinboro fully prepared for advanced study in Master of Art and Master of Fine Arts degree programs. These degrees allow them to teach at the college level or move into fields such as museum curation, criticism, art history or art conservation. Others pursue careers as gallery artists, gallery direction, or various areas of illustration, including book covers, medical illustration, CD/album covers or freelance illustration.
